How to pay for Facebook and Google ads from Bangladesh

nsave teamNov 4, 2026

Running a Facebook shop means your ads are your shopfront. When the card declines, the shop goes quiet that day.

You can pay for Facebook and Google ads from Bangladesh with a Bangladeshi bank card that's enabled for international payments, within your yearly dollar allowance. A local card converts BDT to USD on every charge. A USD card funded with dollars you earned skips the conversion.

The usual route, and where it leaks

  1. A client or platform pays you in USD.
  2. It arrives in a Bangladeshi bank account and is converted to BDT.
  3. You pay Meta with your bank card.
  4. The bank sells you USD back and charges for it.

Two conversions on money that started and ended in dollars.

What paying with a Bangladeshi card involves

Your yearly dollar allowance. Bangladesh Bank lets banks allow online international card payments of up to USD 300 per transaction for legitimate goods and services. These payments come out of your unused annual travel quota, now USD 18,000 per adult per calendar year, plus up to USD 1,000 a year (FEPD-1 Circular 40, 30 Sep 2026). Set your Meta payment threshold below USD 300 so each charge fits the per-transaction cap.

Businesses have their own allowances. BASIS-member IT firms can use up to USD 40,000 a year, which the circular says can include digital marketing. e-CAB-member e-commerce firms get USD 10,000 a year.

VAT on ads. Meta and Google add VAT to Bangladeshi ad accounts that haven't added a 13-digit BIN. Google's rate is 15% (Google Ads Help; Meta Business Help). If your business has a BIN, add it to your ad account.

Banks have a role too. Since 2019, Bangladesh Bank has told banks to deduct 15% VAT on card payments to Facebook, Google and similar platforms (New Age, March 2019). Under the Finance Act 2026, from 1 July 2026 banks collect 15% VAT on payments for services from abroad when the customer isn't VAT-registered (Ismail and Associates, Finance Act 2026 guide, Aug 2026). If VAT shows up on both your Meta invoice and your bank statement, ask your bank or accountant how to claim it back.

FX fees. Many Bangladeshi bank cards charge an FX markup of 2% to 3% only when the transaction currency isn't USD (example schedule, effective 1 Aug 2026). On a USD-billed ad account you avoid the markup but pay for your dollars at the bank's selling rate.

If you convert your income to BDT. Individual freelancers who bring export income home get a 2.5% government incentive in FY2026-27 (UNB, 5 Jul 2026). Factor it in when you compare routes.
